Vocabulary Builders for Daily Living (#40271-IN)

Ages 10 through adult. This book includes easy-to-use stories and reproducible resources that can be used to teach the daily living words such as flammable, private property, yield, merging traffic, etc. Words and phrases are included that are commonly seen on signs and encountered when engaging in activities such as making purchases, driving on the highway, doing laundry, and applying for jobs. The activities can be presented orally to students with limited reading skills.

Overview of the Contents

The book is organized into three sections:

  • Short stories. The short stories in this section can be used to teach students the meaning of common signs and to increase their awareness of the importance of paying attention to signs in the community.
  • Daily Life Skill Builders. The activities in this section can be used to develop students' comprehension and use of words and phrases that are likely to be encountered in daily life activities. Vocabulary items related to shopping, employment, traveling on the highway, and other situations are targeted.
  • Daily Living Word Lists and Reproducible Cards. The lists in this section includes items that are essential for everyday functioning. Many of the items were selected from signs, product labels, and commonly used forms.
The printed book edition and the CD edition are the same price if ordered separately. Save money when you order both the book and CD at the same time. The CD includes the COMPLETE BOOK and makes it easy to print out copies of the reproducible book pages.
