Listening Lessons for the Classroom Curriculum (#4324-IN)

Ages 9 through 16. Promote the development of listening comprehension skills as students listen to passages relating to ecology, careers, famous people, sea animals, and other interesting topics. The listening passages are grouped into eight content areas from the classroom curriculum. The activities promote the development of thinking skills as students identify cause-effect relationships, make inferences, give explanations, and state their personal reactions to the information presented.

Reproducible worksheets are included.

Many students with language disorders and/or learning problems have difficulty recalling, interpreting, or making use of the information presented during classroom listening experiences. These students need to learn how to listen so that they can function effectively in the classroom and in social contexts. Six types of comprehension questions are included to help students become better listeners:

• Identifying causes
• Identifying outcomes
• Giving explanations
• Using imagination
• Personal expression
